lower school dance
Pupils age 5 - 7 years
For our Lower School pupils age 5-7 years, our classes focus primarily on developing those fundamental dance techniques pupils need to learn for the various genres of dance.
Through our core classes, pupils are able to train various genres of dance including; Ballet, Tap & Contemporary Modern Jazz. Lower School pupils also have the chance to discover further genres including; Musical Theatre & Acro.
A large part of our curriculum for our Lower School pupils is the ongoing development of life skills including; a positive mental attitude, self-discipline and confidence!
what genres of dance do our lower school Dancers study?
-
Ballet balances strength with gracefulness and controlled movements to express the beauty of physical motion. This genre is a classical dance style that acts as the foundation for all other dance techniques and is something all our pupils learn in their core classes.
-
Tap dance is a rhythmical style of dance with the tap shoes creating another layer of percussion along with the music. This style of dance will develop coordination and musicality with challenging rhythmical footwork that pupils learn in their core classes.
-
Modern Jazz is a dynamic and powerful dance style that helps develop strength, power and flexibility. There are lots of exciting styles within this genre including; modern jazz, contemporary jazz and lyrical jazz that our Primary and above pupils learn in their core studio classes.
-
Musical Theatre is an interdisciplinary art form combining dancing, singing and acting together to tell a story. This immersive genre is available to lower school pupils alongside their core studio classes.
-
Acrobatic dance is a dynamic and expressive performance style blending traditional dance technique with acro elements. It combines strength, flexibility and precision to produce fluid and athletic movements. This class genre is available to pupils age 7+.
As well as learning all of this…
IDTA Theatre Dance Exams
Many of our pupils participate in IDTA dance exams at our studio. These are a fantastic way for our pupils to fully understand the fundamentals of dance technique, whilst learning how to perform and develop their overall skill.
The exams are available to all pupils age 4+ in all the Theatre Branch styles including; Ballet, Contemporary Modern Jazz, Tap & Theatre Craft.
IDTA exams aren’t compulsory for all pupils, but are a really great way to learn and for us to assess the progress they make in class.
Performance Opportunities
A wide range of performance opportunities are available for our pupils. From our annual Spring Showcase, to competitions and dance festivals we encourage pupils to take part in performances of all sizes. These performance opportunities are another brilliant way for pupils to take what they have learn in the studio and showcase their talents to a wider audience!
